Patrick Croft

Paddy The Fish House

Patrick Croft was born in Bebington on the Wirral in Merseyside and moved to the Isle of Man with his family when he was two years of age. He greatly enjoyed his younger years surrounded by the sea and enjoyed nothing better than crabbing around the rocks or sea fishing in the local harbour.

Patrick was educated at King Williams college we he also developed a keen interest in sport especially rugby. On leaving school he worked for his father Terry at Croft Seafoods in Port St Mary where they processed and exported the local King Scallops all over the world. It was here where his interest in shellfish began and he also developed a keen skill with the knife for hand shucking scallops.

In 1984 Patrick was asked to help out his father  who had opened a seafood shop in the neighboring town of Port Erin. The Food Hall situated on Station Road was to be Patricks place of work for just 2 weeks, he stayed there for 12 years! It was during this time that his filleting skills really did develop and his passion for seafood took off. In 1988 he travelled to London for the National Federation of Fishmongers skills competition where he brought home several awards for fish filleting.

Patrick is probably best known on the island for Paddy’s when it was based on the quay in Port St Mary and his popular markets which took place on Saturday mornings and during Easter and Christmas.

Patrick now the proprietor of The Fish House aims to bring fresh seafood and a relaxed dining experience to the heart of his home town Port St Mary.
